BOB2K FOOTBALL POOL 2024 WEEK 13 NOTES - CORRECTED This is a corrected report. SAILA submitted picks in time, but they got lost in the email. 1. Let’s harken back to the original Ho Chunk story we shared back in 2005 as Thanksgiving was our dear departed co-founder, CHUNK’s favorite holiday. Gather around, children. Pull up a piece of ground near the campfire and sit Injun-style in a circle to listen to the story of the treacherous (and hungry) Winnebago and the helpful (and non-fighting) Illini. Around 1635, the Winnebago, were in sad shape, surrounded by war-like Algonquin tribes, their numbers were greatly reduced. Then came a crippling epidemic (possibly flux) and starvation. Upon learning of their plight, the Illini sent 500 men loaded with food to assist the Winnebago but during a dance in honor of the Illini, the Winnebago tribe surprised their guests and killed them. They then made a feast of their rescuers. Upon learning of this treachery, the Illini sent a large war party to avenge their dead. The Winnebago retreated to an island (the Illini did not have boats) but when the water froze, the Illini crossed the ice and decimated the Winnebago. The Illini, in turn, were weakened by the battle and were easily defeated by other tribes as a result. Today, the Winnebago survive, running casinos in Wisconsin and hotels all over the country. Odd that the benevolent Illini would die out and the very inhospitable Ho Chunk/Winnebago went into the hospitality business. 2. The obligatory note that ANHAM has taken up permanent residence on Reverse Consensus Island, which, as of this week, takes on the name of Island of Misfit Picks in honor of Rudolph, Yukon Cornelius and Hermey the Elf. 3.
