BOB2K FOOTBALL POOL 2024 ANNOUNCEMENT and RULES

Remember to fill out the Registration Form, even if you played last year!

Time to register for “our thing” we like to call THE BOB2K FOOTBALL POOL.

The first regular season game is on Thursday, September 5 as the Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens.

Participants in this year's pool should be registered by Wednesday, September 4 if not earlier!

No registrations will be accepted after Wednesday, September 11.

The Lowdown: The Weekly Pool

Each week, participants predict the winners of all games and assign a "weight" to each of their picks. As an example from Week 1:

New England      at Cincinnati        Bengals         16 pts
Houston          at Indianapolis      Colts            1 pt

In this example, our player is most confident that the Bengals will be very non-patriotic and beat New England and has given that pick the highest rank of 16 points. All other picks are to be ranked from 16 to 1. He/she is less confident in the Colts but thinks they will gallop past the Texans and assigns that game only 1 point. For each correct pick, the player receives the points that they selected.

The player with the highest number of points is the winner of the weekly pool. (The top game, as ranked by each player, is always 16 points, even when there are fewer than 16 games in a week due to byes.)

The Lowdown: The Upset Pool

But that is not the only way to win in the BOB2K Football Pool! An upset pool winner will also be declared each week.

A pool consensus pick is determined for each game. All selections of consensus underdogs are considered upset picks. If a player picks an underdog who wins, he/she will be credited with positive points. If the selected underdog loses, points will be taken away. The number of points is the same as the rank given by the player.

Using the example above, if the pool consensus made the Colts the favorite, the player would earn 1 point in the upset pool if the Colts win. Conversely, the player would lose 1 point in the upset pool if the Texans win. The most positive number of upset points (even if it is negative) wins the weekly upset pool.

No points are awarded or subtracted if the pool consensus team is picked. The Upset Pool winner must have picked at least one upset.

The Lowdown: Season Pool

But wait! There is a third way to win! A running tally will be updated each week, and a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner will be determined for the entire season. Each player's lowest week is not included in the season totals.

The Lowdown: Money

As set in 2021, the season fee is $75.00. The registration fee should accompany registration at the beginning of the season. Each week, $80 is awarded to the winner of the Weekly Pool and $24 is awarded to the winner of the Upset Pool. The remaining money for each entrant is placed in the season pool (minus administrative costs).

In the event of ties in any pool, the money will be divided evenly.

The Rules for 2024

1.        All monies are split evenly among all tied winners. There are no tie- breakers.

2.        Season Pool money will be allocated to the first three positions at the end of the season. Money is divided evenly in the case of ties. The Season Pool will only be awarded if the NFL plays a minimum of 12 total weeks.

3.        No players will be registered after the Week 2 pick deadline. New players registered prior to Week 2 but after Week 1 will receive Week 1 selections based upon Rule 4. Players registering after the Week 1 deadline (September 4) are not eligible for winning the Week 1 Weekly Pool or Upset Pool.

4.        If no picks are submitted for a specific week, selections will be assigned in reverse order of the Pool Consensus (based first upon the number of players selecting a team then upon the total points allocated). Some lower point picks may be re-assigned so as to not affect the pool consensus pick for each game.

5.        Automatically determined picks (see Rule 4) will be used for the Weekly Pool, the Upset Pool and the Season Pool. No picks submitted after the weekly deadline will be accepted.

6.        Any cancelled games will be eliminated from the week they occur. If picks have already been submitted, the game is removed, and all picks are moved up on the players list. Any cancelled weeks will just be cancelled from the pool. Week numbers will remain as originally scheduled if possible.

7.        No changes are allowed in selections after they are submitted unless an error is detected. In the case of phoned-in selections, the participant is responsible for checking for typographical errors on the Weekly Summary Sheet before any NFL games are played. Written or e-mailed selections can be verified after games are played but may not be corrected until the following week's report.

8.        If an error in selection is made (such as the same game being selected twice, a game missing, etc.), the player will be contacted, if possible and time permitting. If the player is not available or time does not avail, random selection will be made for any incorrect game(s). All legitimate picks will be moved up in rank (if need be) and the random selection(s) will be placed at the bottom of the players list. (e.g., a player picks Team A at 12 points and Team B at 8 points in a week that A is playing B, the Team A selection will stand, the Team B selection is negated with all lower ranked games moved up. The game not selected will be placed at the lowest ranking for that week and the selected winner picked randomly.)

9.        A form that has fewer than 75% of the games selected legitimately (either by missing or erroneous selections) will be considered partially submitted. In that case, Rule 7 will be followed for the legitimate picks and Rule 4 will be used as the guideline for all missing selections.

10.     In the Season Pool, the lowest Week is dropped. Standings will be kept based on the remaining weeks.

11.     Pool selections should be sent to bob2kpool@verizon.net. If e-mail is not available, picks can be phoned to 410-599-0373. Results will be posted on the Pool webpage (http://bob2ksports.com).

12.     Notification that the webpage has been updated will be sent to participants via e-mail. If e-mail/internet access is not available, special arrangements can be made but are not guaranteed.

13.     All disputes will be settled by the Pool Steering Committee.

14.     The regular deadline for pick submittal remains WEDNESDAY at Noon ET. The lone exception this year is Week 17 where the deadline is Monday, December 23 at Noon ET due to the Christmas holiday. This will result in picks being due for Week 17 before Week 16 is over.

15.     Player names are limited to 5 characters or less.
